WORLD SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DAY 2001
World wide, thousands of initiatives and projects involving energy efficiency and renewable energy sources have shown how sustainable energy solutions can strongly contribute to protecting the environment and climate and to developing European and global economies.
Continuing in a long tradition of successful international conferences and exhibitions already held in Wels/Austria, the WORLD SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DAY 2001 will showcase the globe's outstanding sustainable energy projects and initiatives and will provide information on major European and international policy developments.
This important conference will once again provide a key forum for presenting sustainable energy solutions; for planning political initiatives; and for launching initiatives and starting partnerships. It aims at providing new impulses to the participating experts and decision makers as they meet the challenge of transforming ther world's energy systems towards sustainability.
The winning projects of the ENERGY GLOBE AWARD 2001,the international award for sustainable energy solutions, will be presented in the framework of the conference. A grand awards gala ceremony - held in the evening of 28 February 2001 - will celebrate the winning projects.
Participants will include decision makers and experts from the business community, the energy industry, universities and research institutions, technology providers, consultants, planners, and the media; representatives of the European Commission, of parliaments and of Euopean, nationall, regional and local poblic administrations.
The WORLD SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DAY 2001 follows in the stimulating tradition of past World Energy Efficiency Days. The WORLD SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DAY 2000 attracted more than 500 participants from 56 countries.
THE ENERGY GLOBE AWARD 2001
The international award for sustainable energy solutions - the ENERGY GLOBE AWARD 2001 - will honour efforts in the fields of renewable energy sources and efficiency. The winners will be presented as part of the conference programme of the WORLD SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DAY 2001. In the year 2000, when this competition was launched for the first time, it attraced 920 submissions from 72 countries!
Projects submitted for this award should involve energy efficiency, trnewable energy sources or other sustainable energy solutions. Examples of submissions: plants or installations, buildings, new technologies, information activities, funding programmes, energy strategies, new approaches to project financing and project development etc.
The following categories are foreseen:
·housing ·companies ·transport ·municipallities, public institutions ·others
In addition to a conference presentation, the Energy Globe Award 2001 offers:
·prizes of 10,000 EURO per category ·presentation in an EU-wide media campaign and in a special publication ·invitation to the awards ceremony in Austria
The Energy Globe Award is open to companies, private and public institutions ans individuals from anywhere in the world.
