Geothermal in Costa Rica
Costa Rica took the goal of achieving 90% of electricity in 2000 obtained from renewable energy as part of their ¡°green¡± economic growth all-around schedule. According to the statistics in January of 1995, the installed capacity for operating geothermal power plants was 60MW, and annual generation capacity was 447GWh, representing 6% and 9% of the total respectively; until the year of 2000, the installed capacity of geothermal power plants are expecting to be 170MW, and the annual generation capacity to be 1226GWh, representing 10% and 14.6% of the total respectively; the total installed capacity for geothermal generation and hydropower generation occupied 87.4% of the total in the country, and the annual generation capacity occupied 88.3% of the total.
